Vaginal Rejuvenation

Due to childbirth (or multiple childbirths), aging, or improper post-surgical healing, the muscles that line and control the vagina loosen. Vaginal rejuvenation (formally known as vaginoplasty) is the surgical tightening of the vaginal canal.
Patients who are seeking to improve the sensitivity of their sexual experience generally seek this type of surgery.

What to Expect

Your OB/GYN will administer a general anesthesia to help you relax and to minimize any pain during the procedure. The operating doctor will use a retractor to see the vaginal area and to assess how much tightening will be needed.

Your doctor will shorten the vaginal muscles with stitches that dissolve naturally.

Next, excess skin is removed while nearby soft tissues are tightened. This results in a smaller vaginal diameter, increased contraction strength and control.

Because the surgery is handled inside the vagina, there is no visible scarring. The procedure usually takes about an hour to complete.

After Surgery

Most Las Palmas patients experience some discomfort and soreness after the anesthesia wears off. However, since there are relatively few nerve endings in the large parts of the vagina, a Vaginoplasty tends to range nearer the milder surgeries.

It is important for patients to get plenty of rest after the surgery, especially for the first 3 days. Strenuous exercise regimens should be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks.

Patients should note that sexual activity should cease for 4 to 6 weeks, to allow for proper healing.

Total recovery encompasses about 6 weeks; although, your OB/GYN will let you know when it is safe to resume normal sexual activity.

In addition to vaginal rejuvenation, Las Palmas also performs repairs of cystolceles and rectoceles.
